Ennie Voting

I felt a little guilty because I didn't know many of the products. Due to money constraints I try to stick to just a few games. At the same time, I was really impressed by some of the art and I will probably look into them more. Check it out and vote for the ones you know!

Zucchini Pics!

These are the four zucchini I picked after my long weekend away.

They are close to being too big but they are still good. So far, we have harvested about 12 zucchini from 3 plants.

Unfortunately, they also developed "powdery mildew" while I was away. I checked it out online and I will probably lose all of my plants =( The remedy, if I caught it in time, is to spray the leaves with a mixture of 2% or skim milk and water, 1:9 ratio. We will see how it works out.

The weekend was long but I found this post once I got back. Karitas posted a wonderful tutorial about how to quickly build terrain, specifically for Mordhiem. Defiantly worth checking out here, even if it isn't a game you play. Other buildings he has created can be found here (just scroll down).

Last Night's DnD

I run a 4e game of Dnd and last night was the last night =( Folks are getting married and others are busy so the game will go on hold for a while. We have been running the Scales of War campaign published by wizards and the team has moved from 1st to 6th level. We are all grad students plus a doctor and the table conversation is a lot of fun. I haven't gotten last night's game updated yet, but feel free to check out the website. I would especially recomend the goblin-bard's "Ode to Poo" he uses for one of his attacks.

Over the weekend

My room mate's dad was just diagnosed with colon cancer. It is probably early enough to fix with just surgery but we are going up to Ohio this weekend to see him. He was not a good dad, often drinking and beating his family, so the emotional stuff is rough. He is older now and doesn't really remember the things he did. My room mate believes in "Honor your father and mother" so we are going to see him before the surgery (just in case). If y'all would be thinking and praying for my room mate, it would be appreciated.

Catching up

First of all, thanks to Mik for the nice words and welcome to the new followers! I spent a week in West Texas and the high ever day was over 100! When I got back, I wasn't real happy with the way my Tharn Ravagers were going (you can check out their progress by clicking on the Tharn label to the right). I love the models but I had gotten a little carried away with the highlights on the flesh. I am only looking for table top quality but I wasn't happy. As a result, I let them sit for about a week. I just wasn't quite sure how to fix them. After Mik posted about my site, I knew I was ready to tackle them again.

I went over the flesh with a wash of the old GW Brown ink. It toned down the highlights and I can live with them now. Then I moved to the leather bits and bracers. They are based with a mix of Folk Arts Burnt Umber and Black, about 3 or 4:1. They are still in progress, but I feel like I am over the hump somehow.

My garden:
While I was in Texas, it went crazy. My room mate watered it and we have harvested about 6 zucchini so far. I grilled them up and they have gone in omelets, pasta salads, and stew.

Just for fun:

I have a fat, pissy cat named Callie (think Garfield). I tell people she bites and they say, "Oh animals love me." 5 minutes later, they are complaining that she bit them!? Anyway, I like her. We get along just fine. Last night, my room mate bought new work shoes. I have no idea how Callie was able to fit her big ___ in here but I took a picture of it.

She got back at me later for taking her picture by jumping up on my painting table. Luckily, she didn't step in the paint (this time).

Texas trip

I am leaving for Texas today. I will be gone for the week so my poor Tharn Ravagers will stay unpainted a little longer. I will probably post a few pics of good Mexican food and I will be back soon. Later =)

Movement Tray

I did this quickly while I was debating what to do with my Tharn Ravagers. I made the tray in this post. I based it with sand and sprayed it with Krylon's Ultra Flat Black Spray Paint sometime in the last few weeks. Today, I overbrushed it with FA's Burnt Umber, mimicking the basing I did on the Saurus Warriors I did in another post. I don't have any spray varnish so I will have to wait for the rest.

Tharn Ravagers Skin Tones

In a previous post, I worked out the colors I wanted to use for the brown fur/skin. The base is FA's Burnt Umber. The mid-tone is a mix of Burnt Umber to Tapioca 1:1. The highlight is Burnt Umber to Tapioca 1:2. Then I lined in the extreme overhead highlight with the same mix. My lining is a little sloppy but I feel like it reduced the overall dusty look.

Drybrushing is a little bit of a crutch but I had decided that these were going to be table top quality and that freed me up to use it. 7 models with two layers of highlights and lining done in 1 hour. Not bad for table top. Now I gotta figure out the details.
